Bowen Rail Company is growing our HSQT team, and we are seeking a Risk & Assurance Specialist to join our team in Bowen. Reporting to the Quality Principal, you will ensure that BRC’s Risk Management Systems are compliant and, fit for purpose. This responsibility includes the assurance of information quality, system functionality, good practice in risk management, and the application of governance principles across Bowen Rail Company operations.

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Safety Leadership: Set the standard for safety at Bowen Rail Company. Demonstrate visible safety leadership in line with the values.
  • Promote a positive risk culture and encourage all BRC staff and contractors to actively employ risk management in their decision-making.
  • Support the HSQT Manager and Principal Quality in the execution of the BRC Risk, Quality, and Assurance Programs.
  • Assist in the design, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of Risk Management Frameworks and systems.
  • Assist in the design, delivery, and reporting of BRC’s Risk Framework and Annual Assurance Plan.
  • Provide leadership in the delivery of risk control assessments and reviews (this includes Field Leadership activities, critical control verifications, and audits).
  • Contribute to safety performance, risk and assurance reporting for SLT, ELT, Governance, and Board in conjunction with HSQT Team to -
  • Ensure regulatory requirements are met and understood by stakeholders in the business.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and execute a variety of risk reviews across the organisation
  • Monitor treatment plans to ensure they are actioned. 
  • Make recommendations for implementation from risk reviews and audits.
  • Support responses to regulatory investigation requests.
  • Conduct incident investigation and coach line supervision in accordance with the Incident Lifecycle Procedure.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in the design and functionality of risk management systems. This includes meeting all obligations under legislation which may be applicable to the management of risk within a railway.
  • Prepare reports on risk management activities, findings, and recommendations for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Analyse data and performance metrics to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement in risk management processes and operational performance.
  • Provide insights and recommendations for enhancing risk mitigation strategies and optimising resource allocation based on risk profiles.

Should you ASPIRE to join our team, you will bring: 

  • SARC - Safely Access the Rail Corridor (Nationally Accredited) or ability to obtain. 
  • RIW Card (Rail Industry Worker Identification) or ability to obtain. 
  • Previous experience in equivalent position.
  • Experience in a similar position within rail or logistics.
  • Recognised competency in audit or risk management.
  • Previous experience, with demonstrated experience in corporate risk, risk management, compliance, and assurance.
  • Experience in audit and assurance processes and requirements.
  • Knowledge of ISO31000 Risk Management Standard.
  • Advanced user skills in Microsoft Office.
  • User and development experience in a corporate risk management software package.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and professional presentation skills.
  • Ability to commute across Bowen Rail Company site locations to support operational requirements.
