Who we’re looking for
Newmont is presently in search of an experienced and detail-oriented Risk Specialist to supervise all risk management aspects essential for the Cadia Integrated Tailings Project (CITP).
This opportunity will be offered as an initial two year fixed term contract and would suit somebody with previous experience in a risk management role, on similar infrastructure, roads construction, bulk earthworks or dam projects.
The appointed individual will collaborate closely with project managers, contractors, and stakeholders to guarantee timely, budget-compliant, and satisfactory project completion. The successful candidate will also possess a verified history of managing large-scale projects, robust project management capabilities, and exceptional communication and problem-solving skills.
Please note, this role will be offered either as a full time 5/2 roster (Mon-Fri) to Orange NSW regional residents, or as a 12/9 roster for FIFO / DIDO workers and you will be required to work on site at Cadia Valley Operations (located 25km’s outside of Orange, NSW) for the duration of your rostered days on.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Identify and lead resolution of opportunities for improvement across the project from WHSE aspects.
- Provide insights by way of cost, schedule, progress, commercial and change control that informs strategic and managerial decision making throughout the project.
- Ensure project development is undertaken in accordance with Newmont requirements – including reporting.
- Support third party/independent project reviews
- Visibly role model safe and operationally disciplined leadership through regular infield interactions including System Verifications, FCCC’s, VFSL’s and participation in the delivery of Newmont culture and values.
- Develop and implement risk management strategies for the project.
- Conduct risk assessments regularly to identify potential risks and develop risk mitigation strategies and plans.
- Utilise quantitative analysis, statistical models, and valuation tools to thoroughly analyse and report on risk management metrics.
- Employing advanced techniques, provide stakeholders with visualizations that succinctly communicate progress, enabling informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with project teams to identify, assess, and manage risks associated with the project.
- Coordinate risk management efforts with contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Develop, monitor, and maintain project risk registers to track risks and mitigation strategies.
- Provide risk management training to project team members and stakeholders.
- Manage the budget and resources assigned to risk management activities.
- Stay current on industry best practices, new technologies, and emerging trends in construction risk management.
You will also possess the following qualifications and experience:
- A recognized qualification in Civil / Mining / Engineering (or a related discipline), coupled with extensive project management expertise.
- A minimum of 15 years of hands-on experience in civil construction risk management, specifically focusing on large-scale projects.
- Prior involvement in risk management roles, particularly in comparable projects such as infrastructure, roads construction, bulk earthworks, or dam projects.
- A proven aptitude in commercial matters, including negotiation, dispute resolution, contract management, and risk assessment.

- Comprehensive understanding of risk management principles, standards, and regulations pertinent to civil construction.
- Established track record of effectively implementing risk management strategies, overseeing administration, and employing mitigation techniques.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving proficiencies.
- Strong leadership qualities coupled with adept mentoring abilities.
- Capability to operate autonomously or collaboratively within a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
- Proficiency in utilizing project management software and other relevant tools and technologies.
- Advanced problem-solving skills, enabling the identification of potential obstacles and the formulation of strategies to mitigate risks and maintain project momentum.
- Familiarity with regulatory mandates concerning civil construction projects.
