Job description

Health and Safety Business Partner

The role of the Health and Safety Business Partner is to support the business in achieving its health, safety, and wellbeing objectives. This involves two distinct yet interconnected functions: Health & Safety Business Partnering and Hazard Portfolio leadership.

In the Health & Safety Business Partnering function, the role actively engages in collaboration with employees, leaders, and executives to provide specialised workplace health and safety advice and support. The objective is to ensure that all individuals within the organisation understand and fulfill their respective WHS (Workplace Health and Safety) duties effectively. By offering guidance and assistance, the Health and Safety Business Partner helps create a safe and healthy work environment.

Additionally, the Health and Safety Business Partner contributes to compliance and assurance activities. This involves conducting or supporting assessments to ensure adherence to the RACQ Safety Management System. By monitoring compliance, identifying areas of improvement, and implementing necessary changes, the Business Partner strives to enhance the organisation's safety performance continually.

Overall, the Health and Safety Business Partner plays a crucial role in the development and execution of health, safety, and wellbeing strategies within the organisation. Through collaboration, support, compliance, and continual improvement, they contribute to creating a safe and healthy workplace for all employees.

 About you:

To be considered for the role of Health and Safety Business Partner, the following qualifications, skills, and experience are required:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification, preferably an Occupational Health and Safety degree or a similar field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in health and safety or a related field.
  • Detailed knowledge of and strong demonstrated experience in the application of effective health and safety risk management programs.
  • Contemporary understanding of key health and safety legislation, codes of practice, as well as industry precedents and trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead workplace changes, working with senior executives from developing a business case to implementation and post-execution evaluation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including influencing operational roles, as well as leaders and executives.
  • Demonstrated ability to record, review, investigate, and provide appropriate actions in response to incidents and hazards.
  • Well-developed communication skills, including the capacity to influence and negotiate.
  • Well-developed research, conceptual, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Experience in the use of WHS information management systems, as well as proficiency in using MS Office and other relevant programs.
