Townsville Hospital and Health Services are seeking an experienced and outcome driven Safety Officer to join the highly skilled and supportive Health, Safety and Wellness team for a temporary full-time role, up to six (6) months.
The purpose of this position is to contribute to the effective implementation of proactive systems to prevent work related injury and illness.

The opportunity Safety Officers work closely with management and staff to ensure a coordinated approach to identifying and managing work health and safety risks.
Safety Officers are responsible for supporting knowledge, understanding and compliance with relevant legislation and best practice in work health and safety.

Employment Term

Role requirement
- Whilst not mandatory, possession of or working toward a qualification in work health and safety will be highly regarded.
The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:
- Working knowledge of work health and safety legislative framework and the ability to apply in practice to maintain an effective safety management system.
- Experience in conducting work health and safety audits, investigations, risk assessments, and well-developed conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills to identify risks and causative factors leading to flexible, responsive, client focused solutions.
- High level written communication and interpersonal skills including negotiation and consultation, and a proven ability to build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge and understanding of work health and safety metrics and the ability to identify, prioritise and implement improvements to ensure desired safety outcomes are achieved.
- Experience in delivering education and training programs to all levels of the organisation.
