School Counsellor-Hoxton Park Campus

Full-time and part-time opportunity available. 
Temporary positions commencing 22 July 2024 ending 13 December 2024 with the possibility of extension into the new 2025 school year.

About the Role: 

The School Counsellor is responsible for the provision of services relating to the wellbeing and mental health of students. The role requires initiative, discretion, expertise and varying levels of confidentiality in dealing with matters of importance to the psychological and emotional wellbeing of students. The School Counsellor also supports the mental health and progress of students with emotional and behavioural challenges.

  • Build the capacity of educators to model the ideals and values of the Islamic tradition, through reflective and reflexive teaching practices.
  • Build the capacity of every educator through collaborative professionalism and relevant, contemporary professional learning.
  • Ensure that every learner is valued and supported to grow holistically reaching their full potential, through differentiated learning programs.

Selection Criteria – please attach a cover letter addressing the selection criteria below. Applications without a cover letter addressing the selection criteria will not be considered. 

  • Experience providing evidence-informed therapies and counselling for students/ children and young people, preferably within a school environment.
  • Ability to provide Individual counselling using psychological and therapeutic interventions.
  • Ability to provide group workshops or support sessions for students or families, if required.
  • Ability to respectfully assist students through the challenges of childhood and adolescence and to help them work towards their individual potential.
  • Provide screening, assessment, case-management and appropriate therapeutic intervention. 
  • Crisis intervention knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to maintain quality and accurate records of student information.
  • Ability to develop professional relationships with staff, students and parents to assist the positive development of the whole school community.
  • Commitment to work within an Islamic School ethos and to provide culturally competent practice for Muslim students and their families.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Counselling, Social Work or Psychology
