Discovery
Discovery’s mission is to inspire and nurture scientific curiosity.
We are a small not-for-profit community enterprise with an enthusiastic team of creative professionals committed to fun-first learning. During the week we work with primary schools and early childhood centres and on weekends we buzz with families engaging with over 100 hands-on exhibits, our early year play space, our famous vertical slide and the Bendigo Planetarium.
The Role
This role is varied day to day and requires a range of skills to bring Discovery’s activities to regional central Victoria and beyond.
STEM Education- A deep knowledge of, and interest in continually learning about, STEM and Inquiry Based learning practices and curriculum.
Creativity- Develop and deliver fun, engaging and exciting STEM shows, workshops and programs and supporting materials. Find fun innovative ways to share STEM education with the community through partnerships, events, social media etc.
Training- Ensure casual staff are trained in best science communication practices and that all shows and programs are delivered in an engaging, entertaining and informative way.
Additionally, you will support the Discovery General Manager in applying for, fulfilling and acquitting grants that support Discovery and STEM education in regional Victoria as a whole.
Your Background (Key Selection Criteria)
1. Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering innovative and creative science programs and shows which inspire and nurture scientific curiosity and support.
2. Well-developed communication skills with a high level of attention to detail and organisational skills.
3. Demonstrated skills in managing, balancing and prioritising tasks and skills for oneself and others.
4. Familiarity with travelling incursion programs showcasing ability to adapt to place and situation to maximise impact.
5. Expertise developing hands-on ‘maker’ activities for members of the public.
6. Involvement with designing and implementing training programs with colleagues, staff or volunteers for public facing activities.
7. Experience writing for formal grant, reporting, and media communications as well as community tailored social media, and articles for members, teachers, and broader Bendigo.
9.Experience developing risk assessments and procedure documents
Special Requirements
Current “Working with Children” check will be required at time of appointment (provided if not already obtained)
Willing to get a police check completed
Level 2 First Aid (provided if not already obtained.)
Practical knowledge from working in a not-for-profit environment would be highly regarded.
The position is permanent part time or full time, (minimum 3 days a week).
