About the school:
Deutsche Schule Melbourne delivers German-English bilingual education for families, who value the benefits it offers. The vision for children at DSM is to grow up learning two languages at the same time, preparing them to become involved citizens of the world. Established 15 years ago, DSM offers bilingual primary school education with classes taught both in English and German. The school currently has 170 students and a team of 25 teachers and educators and six education support staff which is continuously growing. Our aim for the future is to continue the strong growth and ultimately extend our educational offer to a Secondary School program based on the International Baccalaureate in German and English (GIB).
About this position:
- Commencement date: October 2024 or January 2025.
- Full-time position.
- Permanent.
- Must be able to teach Biology in combination with another science (Chemistry, Physics, or Maths).
Responsibilities:
- Account for the achievement of all students by applying the highest quality teaching methods and demonstrating contemporary pedagogical practice.
- Cultivate a positive and productive learning and working environment.
- Communicate with confidence across diverse audiences and situations.
- Contribute to whole-school development by working cross-sectionally and cross-departmentally where required.
- Actively support the development of the Secondary School.
Your profile:
After highly successful completion of tertiary studies with a focus on Secondary School teaching, you
- Enjoy being part of a dynamic work environment and have the ability to motivate colleagues and contribute to an effective professional team with a shared vision for the schooling of early adolescents and young adults.
- Are looking for an opportunity to apply your specialist expertise and play an ambassador role in the development and growth of Deutsche Schule Melbourne.
- Have lived in different cultural environments or you are familiar with teaching children from varied language backgrounds.
- Have gained experience as a subject coordinator or in an extended leadership role.
- Have a demonstrated track record of excellence and innovation by either
- Having played a key role in building a new school or department and/or
- Having successfully introduced a new curriculum or implemented and educational program such as the IB and/or
- Having won an award in your area of expertise.
Profile of ideal candidates:
- Min. four years of tertiary education with a focus on Secondary School teaching.
- University degree with excellent grades.
- Min. five years of experience as a Secondary School teacher.
- German or English at a native speaker level; highly fluent in the other language (e.g. IELTS 7.5+).
- Knowledge of the Programmes of the International Baccalaureate Organization or willingness to train in this area.
- Ideally, you have gained experience in Secondary School exam organisation and/or other areas of school administration.
- Willingness to relocate to Melbourne for at least 4 years.
