You will apply independent scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens; leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to clinical units where appropriate. Additionally, you will participate in all rostered shifts which will include days, afternoon, weekends, overnights and public holidays covering 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
Within the context of the responsibilities described above under ‘your key responsibilities', the ideal applicant will be someone who has:
- Demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge of contemporary Microbiology scientific principles, analyses and technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to apply established principles to a Microbiology service with provision of results and clinical advice in a client focused manner.
- Ability to participate in a single-discipline or multidisciplinary team and contribute a range of diagnostic skills relevant to the discipline.
- Proven ability to positively contribute to a team.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation / certification.
- The successful applicant must hold at least a relevant tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Medical Laboratory Science.
- The position will become continuous shift, in that working day, afternoon, and overnight shifts plus public holidays, across a 7-day period will be required.
- Some overtime may be required.
