Full-time, fixed-term appointment for 3 years

You will
assume responsibility for leading, managing and coordinating all facets of Financial Operations, comprising Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Taxation & Travel functions and leading these teams to ensure goals and objectives are achieved;
develop and enforce financial management policies across the organisation and support each team and the University to implement process improvements and best practice processes; and
involvement in the development and preparation of the University’s annual financial statements in accordance with the Federal Financial Reporting Guidelines, the State Financial Administration and Audit Act and relevant accounting standards and guidelines.
About you:
You will be an experienced Accountant with proven results working within a medium to large sized organisation. With effective verbal and written communication skills, you'll excel at explaining administrative requirements and processes clearly, as well as preparing clear and concise written materials. Your commitment to providing quality client service, coupled with your relationship-building capabilities, will be evident in your ability to influence, negotiate, and interact effectively to address the diverse needs of the University community.
To be successful you will possess
Completion of a relevant degree with at least four years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience;
A detailed knowledge of operations, systems and financial compliance requirements in a higher education environment with a particular emphasis on legislation & taxation issues that impact a statutory body;
Experience in all aspects of computerised financial and accounting administration in a medium to large sized organisation;
Experience with accounting standards, statements of accounting concepts, audit requirements, financial control, taxation, reporting and funding, particularly in a higher education environment;
Experience in the development and implementation of new financial policies and practices, with well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills and the capability to reengineer business processes that are easily managed and sustained;
Detailed knowledge and extensive management, team leader and coaching experience across Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable functions or financial services in a large organisation, including the ability contribute to the review and application of these functions; and
Advanced application knowledge, skills and highly developed computer literacy including the ability to use databases, TechnologyOne, electronic diaries and Microsoft applications such as Sharepoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, the internet.
Desirable
Relevant experience in the higher education sector and knowledge of sector issues that may impact the strategic directions of the University.
CPA qualified member of CPA Australia (or equivalent).
Previous experience with University enterprise systems particularly:
Finance – Technology One CiA.
Receipting – Xetta (Unilink / Onestop).
Business analytics and report writing tools.
