What will you be doing?
Reporting to the General Manager of Operations and Member Services, the Senior Adviser, Budget and Finance will be responsible for supporting our teams to develop project budgets and support our senior management team in developing and tracking our annual budget.
The Senior Adviser, Budget and Finance will be responsible for enhancing and managing our financial frameworks, identifying areas for improvement and communicating financial performance to internal stakeholders’.
More specifically, you’ll:
- Support the development of financial plans and forecasts to align financial planning with strategic objectives.
- Support the organisation Budget and project budgeting processes.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports, including analysis and commentary to support decision-making processes.
- Perform cost analysis and control activities.
- Communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Assist in ensuring financial operations comply with statutory laws and regulations and support the preparation for internal and external audits.
- Contribute to the maintenance and integrity of financial systems and databases, ensuring accurate and timely financial information.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting and operations.
- Support accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely invoicing, payment processing, and reconciliation activities.
To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate:
- At least five years of experience in a comparable role within the financial management sector.
- A tertiary qualification in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Public Policy, or a related field.
- A strong understanding of financial management frameworks, guidelines, and standards, and a proven ability to apply them effectively.
- A demonstrated capacity to work effectively with senior management and communicate complex financial concepts clearly and effectively.
- Advanced skills in report writing tools, budgeting software, and business intelligence tools, including Excel and Power BI.
- An independent work ethic, with the initiative to manage work without close supervision, balancing competing priorities, and maintaining effective stakeholder engagement.
- The ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment, often with a degree of ambiguity, and to thrive within it.
- A commitment to fostering diversity and contributing to a respectful and positive workplace culture.
Bonus points:

- CA or CPA qualified
- Working knowledge and experience in the Australian mining and automotive industry
- Working knowledge of Australia’s Vocational Education and Training system.
- Previous experience working in a small, national team.
