Your opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health and Safety professional to join our dynamic team. As our Senior Adviser Operational Safety you will partner with Council to ensure the delivery of business objectives through the development and implementation of a contemporary Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) system. You will consult and work collaboratively within the HSW Group and more broadly with key stakeholders to strengthen outcomes for Council, including the continuous improvement of health and safety performance and ongoing development of organisational culture in relation to HSW standards and practices.

Guided by our Values, you will:

  • Lead and assist the Safety and Psychosocial Health Team in the development and utilisation of strategic and operational processes, initiatives, and programmes to address and improve HSW risk profiles.
  • Undertake proactive inspections and audits of Council work locations and processes to monitor departmental HSW implementation and performance.
  • Lead and advise on the implementation of the HSW Management System across the Council departments to address and improve control of HSW hazards and their associated risks.
  • Provide high level advice to people leaders and workers on the processes and practices that increase HSW maturity and maintain a culture that is focused on continuous improvement.

  • Has knowledge of contemporary risk management processes, principles and legislation related to HSW coupled with demonstrated skills in providing technical advice and facilitating risk assessment for the management of critical risks.
  • Demonstrates the ability to monitor and evaluate HSW performance through inspection, audit and investigative processes and to evaluate data in standard and bespoke IT software to provide informative reports.
  • Has demonstrated knowledge of contemporary HSW systems approach and experience in developing, implementing and maintaining HSW Management Systems including procedures and supporting system documentation to address and improve control of HSW risks.

Eligibility

  • You'll hold a tertiary qualification in occupational health and safety (Diploma or Advanced Diploma) with relevant experience; or have an equivalent level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training, professional accreditation and qualification.
  • You'll have comprehensive knowledge of the principles and legislation related to Work health and Safety with minimum five (5) years' experience in health and safety role within a large and complex organisation.
  • You'll have a C Class Drivers Licence.
