About the OPPORTUNITY
We have 2 exciting opportunities available. We are currently looking for a Senior Aviation SystemsSafety Engineer and an Aerospace Product Safety Engineer to join our team based in Williamtown, NSW. Working from other BAE Systems sites and remote locations will also be considered for these roles.
These roles are part of the engineering capability that supports current military aircraft including Hawk, F-35 and future airborne systems currently under development.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, including a 9 day fortnight.
The engineering activities may include tasks in any of the engineering lifecycle phases to support bids, new design solutions, integration of new equipment or modifications and supporting in service operational aircraft.
Key responsibilities include:
For the Senior Aviation SystemsSafety Engineer role, the successful candidate will:
Establish and maintain System Safety programs for aircraft related contracts.
Manage and coordinate Project System Safety Working Groups and participation in related Safety Committee meetings as the customer representative.
Preparation and maintain documentation to progress safety issues with stakeholders and ADF Regulatory authority.
Coordinate System Safety activities within the assigned projects.
Communicate activities internal and external to the projects to provide visibility of current hazards, mitigation strategies and review results.
Lead the identification and assessment of hazards, and the development of mitigation strategies, associated with Project system level products.
Prepare internal and external safety reports to support project reviews and System Safety Working Groups.
Lead the determination of safety requirements affecting material and component suppliers and vendors.
Lead or support investigations to close out Product Safety Reports in a timely manner.
Support the delivery of safety best practices and provide guidance to projects regarding Safety Engineering methodology as described by MIL-STD-882.
If working remotely, there may be a requirement to periodically travel to the BAE Systems Williamtown site.
For the Aerospace Product Safety Engineer role, the successful candidate will:
Contribute to the systems engineering design process to ensure Product Safety is managed throughout the related product lifecycle (including hazard management and the development of related mitigation strategies).
Support and contribute to Project System Safety Working Groups and related Safety Committee meetings.
Assist with documentation to progress safety issues with related stakeholders.
Support the investigations to close out Product Safety Reports in a timely manner.
Support the delivery of safety best practices and provide guidance to projects regarding Safety Engineering methodology as described by MIL-STD-882.
If working remotely, there may be a requirement to periodically travel to the BAE Systems Williamtown site.
About YOU
As the Senior Aviation SystemsSafety Engineer, you will have:
Experience in developing and maintaining an aviation System Safety Program Plan based on a standard such as MILSTD-882
Experience across all the product lifecycle phases (initial and continuing airworthiness) under the DASA framework
Experience in application of an aviation safety management system and application of CS/FAR 25-1309 in an initial airworthiness environment
Experience in the use of Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) or similar analysis tools
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent System Safety training and experience
Demonstrated ability to contribute and work in a cross-function team while ensuring specific responsibilities are achieved
Willingness and ability to mentor engineers in Aviation System Safety
Eligible to obtain and maintain a Defence Security clearance and be cleared for International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
As the Aerospace Product Safety Engineer, you will have:
Experience in applying a Product Safety process as applied in an Aerospace engineering context or programme
Experience in application of a Product Safety program based on a standard such as MILSTD-882
Experience in Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), or similar analysis tools
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent System Safety training and experience
Eligible to obtain and maintain a Defence Security clearance and be cleared for International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
