Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have a choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.

Job Description
About the role:
You will join a pioneering project in the field of Natural Language Understanding (NLU). As a valued member of our team, you will have the chance to work closely with talented engineers representing various subspecialties.
You'll be part of a highly dynamic and collaborative team, embracing a culture of constant innovation and pushing the boundaries of technological advancements. Working alongside brilliant minds, you'll create synergies and leverage diverse skill sets that will elevate your own expertise to new heights.
As a member of the project, you will have the chance to establish connections with various teams across our organization, transcending traditional boundaries, and directly interfacing with the newest technology that's being built at Canva.
What you are doing on this role:
- Contributing to the BE development of au natural language understanding/processing system that integrates seamlessly into Canva Product.
- Designing and implementing APIs that model a conversational interface to Canva.
- Running the underlying ML models of the assistant at scale.
- Building evaluation systems that let us iterate and improve on our natural language processing.
- Working on new solutions to cater for the quality required by our Product and Engineering teams.
- Running experiments to understand Customer Design Journeys.
- You have five-plus (5+) years of commercial experience writing Java (experience with Node, and AWS is a big plus)
- You are comfortable with computer science and engineering fundamentals: concurrency, data structures, and distributed systems
