Fortescue Energy is seeking applications for an experienced Senior Commercial Analyst with expertise in financial modelling, financial & economic evaluation, investment appraisal and valuation to work within the centre Economics & Analysis team.
The centre Economics & Analysis team works closely with the teams in Australia/New Zealand, Asia, Middle East, Europe, Africa, North America & Latin America to support investment decisions across a broad portfolio of green energy projects and product lines.
Portfolio of Green Energy Projects and Product Lines include:
- At-scale production of green hydrogen, green ammonia
- Developing renewable power generation
- Developing new products such as sustainable fuels for transportation (aviation, shipping), green fertilizer, green iron; and
- Manufacturing of green hydrogen electrolysers and battery products primarily targeting the mobility sector.
The role will primarily undertake financial and economic assessments to support Fortescue Energy's strategy in developing and executing large-scale projects. You will develop strong relationships internally and with external stakeholders; and work closely with regional Commercial teams and with teams across Fortescue functions such as Funding, Tax, Marketing, Deal Delivery and Project Delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop financial models for new and existing opportunities at different project stages and be a subject matter expert for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyse data, ensuring accurate and comprehensive financial and economic assessments.
- Engage with project teams to frame and analyse key project decisions.
- Support the leadership, development managers and deal-delivery managers by identifying and clearly communicating analytical insights to add value and inform the direction of critical business decisions.
- Prepare business cases, presentations, and briefing papers for internal, and external audiences (i.e., investment committee, board, government agencies / departments, joint venture or study partners, offtakes, utilities, financiers etc.).
- Support value assurance and governance activities for projects and transactions.
- Support the setting of internal procedures and analytical tools to drive continuous improvement in financial and economic analysis methodologies.
- Stay abreast of economic trends, regulatory changes, and industry developments to inform project analyses.
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, mathematics, engineering, or professional qualifications such as CFA, CIMA, ACA (or equivalent).
- Experience in energy, utilities, or infrastructure.
- At least 7 years' experience in financial modelling. Must have built financial models from the ground up based on 'best practice' principles.
- Extensive experience in commercial, financial, and economic analysis.
- Experience in commercial ventures, transactions, due diligence, and M&A will be an added advantage.
- Experience in undertaking evaluation for Final Investment Decisions (FID) of projects will be an added advantage.
- Experience in assessing global opportunities in both developed & developing economies will be an added advantage.
- Experience in project finance will be an added advantage.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to be agile and resilient when managing diverse workloads with multiple priorities and delivering work to a high quality and on time.
