About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Manager to support a long-term Government contract within the Social Infrastructure BU. The Commercial Manager will work closely with the project teams. Having the ability to investigate to make solid recommendations based on commercial, financial and legal positions, including diving into the detail, providing practice guidance.
Reporting to the Commercial Director, this role will see you provide expert commercial expertise to support and guide the delivery team.
Duties and responsibilities
- Develop and maintain key working relationships with the relevant stakeholders, including the Client, Project Director, Project teams and Corporate support functions.
- Strong upstream and downstream relationships
- Lead the resolution of any commercial claims and disputes when they arise.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the head contract.
- Provide advice on commercial and contract risk management
- Work closely with downstream procurement / subcontracts teams to drive efficiency in contracting arrangements
- Liaise with legal team in relation to issues requiring legal review / discussion
- Lead review proposed contract changes
- Identify under-performing areas; develop and implement performance improvement plans
- Provide Commercial Leadership for project mobilisations to ensure sustained project success.
- Review effectiveness of current project controls systems and procedures and identify and implement strategies for improvement in accordance with the contract.
- Ensure the effective implementation of commercial and financial risk and opportunity management.
- Develop and lead the implementation of best practise policies and procedures and continue to drive innovation to improve efficiency and effectiveness across the contract
- In conjunction with corporate stakeholders implement and manage a regular project health check regime, including ongoing management to ensure identified actions are closed in a timely manner.
- Responsibility for the ongoing development of commercial capability of the Contract
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast-paced environment with multiple and competing demand.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, as well various project control systems and strategies
- Experience with SAP, Ariba and Power BI desirable
To be successful you will have the following
- Hold a degree in Legal, Business, Accounting or Commerce
- 5+ years experience as a Commercial Manager managing long term contracts.
- Demonstrated understanding of contract and construction law and project commercial administration systems.
- Experience managing multi-million-dollar contracts /projects
- Experience in client engagement and strong negotiating skills
- Proven track record in successfully delivering commercial outcomes
- Proven ability to multi-task on various competing projects
- Outstanding communication skills with the ability to distil complex contracts and give clear concise and succinct guidance
