About the team

Our specialised team is focused on the provision of carbon accounting services, preparation of voluntary and mandatory sustainability reporting and the development of sustainability strategy and decarbonisation strategy to existing and new BDO clients. As IFRS sustainability disclosure standards and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol continue to change and challenge the industry, our team is expanding and continuing to uncover new opportunities and new ways to assist clients.

Current opportunity

This role will assist the Sustainability and IFRS & Corporate Reporting team in Melbourne to deliver engagements around carbon accounting (the measurement of an organisation’s carbon footprint), voluntary and mandatory sustainability reporting, and sustainability strategy and transformation (including decarbonisation strategies).

This is a client-facing consulting role which requires the application of technical accounting and carbon emissions measurement principles, ESG strategy and related ESG service delivery that will include coordination of other BDO service lines e.g. corporate finance, audit.

This role offers a great variety of work, autonomy, client contact and direct Partner interaction and coaching.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Measure carbon footprint for clients, including boundary setting and basis of preparation.
  • Assist with the development of decarbonisation strategies, including target setting.
  • Preparation of gap analysis re TCFD recommendations, IFRS S1 and IFRS 2.
  • Preparation of voluntary and mandatory sustainability reports.
  • Advise clients from a range of sectors on value-creating sustainable solutions.
  • Execute advisory services, including ESG strategy, materiality, roadmap development, transformation etc.
  • Work with the team to develop client strategies and execute bespoke solutions to address client ESG opportunities and challenges.
  • Liaise with senior stakeholders and clients to ensure objectives are met and risks are mitigated.
  • Understand and apply the firm’s quality and professional delivery standards required to deliver assurance services.
  • Develop externally facing material about the ESG practice (e.g. articles, presentations) and contribute to capability building internally through the development of tools and training where there is capacity.

What you’ll need to succeed

The ideal candidate is passionate about working with clients around their sustainability goals and has a strong desire to work in the ESG sector.  Your generalist consulting experience across multiple sectors and engagement types and gained within any of the leading professional services firm would be highly regarded.

Your skills & attributes:

  • Attainment or working towards your CA or CPA or any relevant tertiary qualification/s in a related discipline.
  • Sound experience working in an accounting or assurance role.
  • Demonstrable experience in ESG/sustainability including reporting frameworks and executing solutions for clients in response to ESG-related challenges will be highly desirable.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in consulting and project management in relation to transformation, strategy, and business operations.
  • Strong research and presentation capabilities.
  • Clear and effective communication skills with the ability to build strong working relationships
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with a self-motivated approach to the role
