Job description

My client is a cutting-edge Renewable Energy company comprised of a growing team of Engineers, Scientist and Energy Experts.  Due to the continued growth and demand for clean and Renewable Energy this company is looking for an experienced Senior Controls & Instrumentation Engineer to join their business in the South-Eastern Suburbs.    

Reporting through the Lead Controls & Software Engineer this individual will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, installing and maintaining instrumentation and control systems to meet project demands.

Duties:

  • Develop and improve control systems including but not limited too cause and effect diagrams, control philosophies, functional descriptions, logic diagrams, software and communication network, FAT and SAT documentation
  • Support engineering teams through the preparation of control documentation, engineering drawings and manuals for projects
  • Programming PLCs and user interface and development of software packages for PLCs
  • Review PLC project requirements and specifications to meet functional and design requirements
  • Continuously improve PLC programs for optimised productivity
  • Assist with controls wiring from time to time and onsite support for wiring
  • Start up, commissioning and fault finding equipment 
  • Provide technical support and guidance to engineering team
  • Work with stakeholders and provide instructions so they can better understand the application of specific products and solutions
  • Write and prepare client documentation including operator/user instruction and SOPs

Essential Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree of Engineering in Automation, Control Systems, Mechatronics Engineering or similar
  • Have ideally >7 years commercial experience in automation, control systems and PLC programming
  • Knowledge in IEC-61131 programming languages, experience in Beckhoff TwinCAT preferred (but not essential)
  • Demonstrated experience with overall Instrumentation, control / Automation Engineering with an understanding of power generation systems (oil/gas background ideal)
  • Experience with specifying PLC programming requirements through functional descriptions and specifications
  • Experience with preparation and presentation of reports, functional descriptions and specifications
  • Practical engineering knowledge
  • Experience working with manufacturing teams and coordinating cross functional teams to meet project deadlines
