Senior Data Scientist

An exciting opportunity has become available for a high performing individual to join the Policy, Planning and Investment branch of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) in the role of Senior Data Scientist. In the role of Senior Data Scientist, you will contribute to major analytics and modelling projects that will support evidence-based decision making, driving positive transport outcomes for Queensland. You will use specialist data science analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning modelling skills in combination with strong skills in mentoring, collaboration, and innovation as a senior officer in a team of technical experts.

Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Technical leadership on the development and application of analytics products and data storage solutions to meet stakeholder needs.
• Ensure the timely delivery of fit for purpose products by participating in an agile work environment where products are iteratively developed and enhanced based on stakeholder feedback and objective assessments.
• Communicate the sensitivities and limitations of data, analyses, and models to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Engage with other technical experts across the department to ensure opportunities for data sharing, collaboration, and consistency are capitalised on.
• Maintain awareness of and explore new software, technologies, and methods that could improve business efficiency.

The role will suit a driven individual who
• Has experience working as a Data Scientist, data analyst, data engineer, transport modeller, or similar role.
• Can apply skills in artificial intelligence, statistics, and data blending to lead model development.
• Uses knowledge of best practice data storage and structure to design efficient analytics solutions.
• Builds and sustains relationships to enable the collaborative delivery of customerfocused outcomes.
• Communicates in a clear, succinct and deliberate manner, adjusting the message so that it resonates with different stakeholders.
• Has familiarity with any of the following software / technologies: relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL), Geographic Information Systems (e.g., ESRI suite & QGIS), data science software (e.g., Alteryx & Python), cloud-enabled BI / visualisation software (e.g., Tableau), cloud platforms (e.g., Amazon Web Services).
