Permanent Full-Time opportunity located in Brisbane CBD for a Senior Data Scientist. Assess impacts on the health system, analyse health and service delivery data, and create data and service planning tools such as visualisations and dashboards to enhance data accessibility.
The role
The role reports to the Manager (Data Analysis) within the Health Service Research Analysis and Modelling (HSRAM) unit. You will be responsible for supporting the development of need and demand forecasts, service planning benchmarks, methodologies, and reports to inform policy and service plans. This will involve managing, analysing, and interpreting data and literature to provide valuable insights. You will be responsible for extracting data from large datasets, conducting data analysis, and effectively communicating the results to various audiences.
The successful person
The key things we are looking for in a successful candidate are:
- Knowledge of health priority areas; the health needs of key population groups; and key health system issues.
- Strong data manipulation and analysis skills to enable data transformations and complex analysis, including building fundamental algorithms and statistical models. Proficiency in extracting and interpreting data from large datasets is essential.
- Ability in utilising a range of data integration, analysis, and reporting technologies, whether on-premise or cloud-based, such as R Studio/ Posit Workbench, Azure, SQL Server and/or Power BI.
- Strong verbal and written communication ability to describe statistical methodologies and summarise data to compile reports, discussion papers and submissions.
- Strong project management abilities are required to manage complex projects autonomously or within a team, ensuring timely delivery of specified milestones.
About us
System Planning Branch (SPB) is responsible for driving and overseeing a range of health service planning functions including strategic and state-wide health service planning. SPB assesses state-wide health service requirements, service supply and service capacity; develops state-wide plans as well as supporting local health service planning; and informs investment priorities for service development and infrastructure initiatives. In addition, SPB undertakes time-limited projects on specific areas that contribute to the development of health services including state-wide, HHS and clinically specific planning and strategy.
The Health Service Research Analysis and Modelling (HSRAM) Unit's responsibilities are to:
- Develop and review of health service planning methods, including providing health service need and demand forecasts
- Assess anticipated impacts to the health system through a Horizon Scanning process
- Extract and analyse health and health service delivery data
- Develop data and service planning tools, including visualisations, dashboards and mechanisms that support the increased accessibility of data.
- Development of the projected healthcare demand and other projections
- Model the impact of health service and system level policy and planning.
