About the Role:
As the Database Specialist, you will be integral to managing cloud IaaS & PaaS configurations, ensuring the high performance, integrity, and security of SQL and Cosmos databases. Working closely with the IT team, you'll enhance database functions, support application development, and establish frameworks to improve query quality. Your role will also involve managing and optimising cloud database costs effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain SQL database systems for optimal performance.
- Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues to ensure efficiency.
- Implement and maintain robust security protocols and access controls for databases.
- Ensure data integrity, security, and availability with regular backups and disaster recovery plans.
- Write and optimise SQL queries for efficient data retrieval and manipulation.
- Improve database configurations and indexes to enhance query performance.
- Manage reporting databases and data warehouses, supporting business intelligence and analytics efforts.
- Utilise PowerBI to create insightful and actionable reports for stakeholders.
- Design, build, and code solutions leveraging the Azure platform and Terraform IaC tools.
- Ensure the platform meets governance and compliance requirements.
- Document new solutions thoroughly for ease of support and understanding.
- Proactively support and enhance platform performance, addressing incidents as they arise.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in technology or equivalent.
- Azure Cloud certifications preferred.
- Proven experience as a SQL Database Administrator or in a similar role.
- Proficiency in SQL, with the ability to write complex queries and stored procedures.
- Familiarity with performance tuning and optimisation.
- Understanding of database security best practices and data protection regulations.
- Experience in Shell/Scripting - PowerShell preferred.
- Experience with IaC - Terraform / Ansible preferred.
- Strong background in critical incident response management and disaster recovery planning.
