What you'll be doing
The core focus of this role is to take ownership and manage the performance of Freedom's Azure SQL data warehouse including the development, monitoring and streamlining of ETL/ELT pipelines and supporting the data infrastructure. This is a hands-on technical role and will suit someone who has a solid background in the database administration space with experience in Data Engineering design and development.
Reporting to the Head of BI and Data, your contribution will include:
- Ownership and Management of the Technical Aspects of Freedom's Azure SQL Data Warehouse and Reporting Systems.
Manage the performance of the Data Warehouse, including tuning, housekeeping and capacity management ensuring that the database has enough resources to operate efficiently.
Helping to drive the engineering rhythm and process of the team from planning, design, coding, deployment, through to support.
- Ensure the efficient running and documentation of the ETL processes.
Modify or expand the ETL processes to include support for new or modified source systems, or as required by the business.
Design, Develop and Implement Data pipelines including models and schemas in an Azure DW environment.
- Support the Reporting Needs of the Business.
- Develop and maintain data models and/or queries to satisfy business requirements.
- Consolidate reports from disparate systems with data sourced from the Data Warehouse.
What are we looking for?
- 5+ years' experience and advanced skills in database administration (DBA) within a Microsoft environment MCDBA certification desirable.
- Extensive understanding of database technologies including data warehousing, strong SQL skills, metadata management and Data integration.
- Experience with the Azure Data Components (Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake, Azure Analysis Services, Azure Synapse and Azure Databricks)
- Strong demonstrated experience in designing, implementing and maintaining data pipelines, models and schemas in a complex Cloud DW environment, preferably Azure.
- Strong demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of ETL/ELT pipelines in SSIS.
- Experience in data modelling design and Data architecture principles (Relational DB as well as Kimball - Star schema data modelling in DW)
- Ability to translate business requirements and architecture into a working solution.
