Job description

About the role
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will play a crucial role in shaping the processes, tools, and methodologies across the ACIC software lifecycle. You will apply your deep knowledge of DevOps to seek out gaps in our on-premises software delivery pipelines and find ways of addressing them. You will also have opportunities to exercise your coding skills in the upkeep of common code and services.
Hands on work will be an important part of your day to keep our systems working and development teams productive. You will also need to supervise others while they are completing tasks that you have assigned to them, and always be prepared to lend assistance when you can see it is needed.
It will be critical that you promote, through your actions, a culture of collaboration between development and infrastructure teams. You will use your excellent communication skills to build productive relationships to get things done in a highly demanding environment.
An inquiring mind will be needed, as there will be a lot to learn both in the technical domain, but also across the varied business domains which our software serves. Expect to proactively engage with people in the organisation where you see issues or a better way of doing things, and be prepared to contribute heavily to the solutions.
The key duties of the position include
Our ideal candidate

  • Broad knowledge and experience in the configuration and use of tools that support and complement software development; especially Kubernetes, CI/CD servers, Git repository managers, artefact repositories, static code analysers, and observability tools.
  • An understanding of, and desirably practical experience with, DevSecOps.
  • A demonstrated history in the development of software in Java and other complementary technologies (i.e. HTML5, CSS, Typescript or Javascript), in both Unix and Windows environments. An understanding of scripting languages would be beneficial.
  • An ability to lead small technically focused teams and build a culture embodying transparency, efficiency, and quality.
  • An ability to work constructively with stakeholders such as infrastructure support teams to increase the productivity of the software delivery pipeline and to detect and solve technical issues relating to application software deployed in complex environments.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to maintain productive working relationships and to liaise effectively with Senior Executive officers to reach an agreement on complex matters relating to ICT software development and delivery.
