As a prominent Australian corporation operating within a dynamic and heavily supervised sector, we are actively seeking a premier professional to fill the role of Senior Director, Government & Public Affairs to orchestrate Optus’ key relationships across Federal, State and Local Governments. As a distinguished leader within the Optus Regulatory and Public Affairs team, you will be instrumental in implementing various strategic engagement plans and crafting external policy positions on critical business matters.
These efforts will optimally communicate Optus' values and objectives, aligning with the corporate vision established by the CEO and executive leadership team. The ideal candidate will possess a specialized background, ideally having previously served in a minister's office, demonstrating a profound understanding of government and public policy.
This role will require a specialist having previously worked in a minister's office with a strong understanding of government and public policy, enabling your ability to develop and implement external advocacy plans to achieve positive outcomes that will have a direct impact on the commercial success of Optus and Singtel group.
Reporting directly to the VP of Regulatory and Public Affairs, you will provide invaluable strategic insights on pertinent business and industry issues. Your role will involve offering informed guidance to senior management on key political and strategic matters, along with preparing meticulously crafted policy submissions to government and industry partners, addressing both Optus' business interests and broader public policy concerns.

- Be responsible for the development and management of Optus’ advocacy to achieve crucial outcomes to the success of Optus.
- Advance our commercial interests at all levels of Government, influencing and achieving strategic outcomes optimally on behalf of the business.
- Consider emerging community expectations and identify how Optus needs to react to enhance its social licence.
- Own the development of our position on important public policy matters, including preparation of submissions and attendance to relevant external forums.
- You will lead Government Relations and relevant Government funded programs to assist various business units to achieve their priorities.
- At times, participate and support negotiations with Government to fulfill Optus business strategy.
- At times, act as spokesperson to promote Optus business and Optus objectives with government, industry, business, media, and other relevant partners.

- Confirmed experience in role underpinned by a Corporate/ Political/ Government/ Government Affairs background.
- Validated experience working in a minister's crucial essential, this role would ideally suit a former or current Chief of Staff.
- Outstanding relationship skills and partner management is critical, underpinned by an understanding of media relations is highly advantageous.
- Armed with a deep understanding of the telecommunications landscape and governmental intricacies, to navigate regulatory frameworks with finesse.
- You have a proven track record in various levels of strategic engagement plans and external policy positions.
