Senior Director, Urban Treescapes
Senior Officer Grade A
Salary Range: $162,291 (PN: 13322)
Urban Treescapes is seeking an experienced Senior Director to lead our Urban Treescapes team. This position requires a leader who understands horticultural practices including Forestry, Landscape Architecture, Arboriculture or similar and is a strong, considered and engaging leader, with the ability to inspire, energise and positively influence team and individual outcomes.
Urban Treescapes is responsible for the management and maintenance of more than 823,500 trees on parklands and streets throughout ACT. Canberra’s urban forest comprises a diverse combination of evergreen and deciduous trees, and this diversity provides important ecological and amenity advantages. Urban Treescapes’ responsibilities include the planting, watering, and follow up maintenance of newly planted trees, the maintenance of established trees, the removal of dead and dying trees, the administration of the Urban Forest Act 2023, the assessment of tree related claims, and the provision of technical advice on tree related matters.
As a Senior leader in Urban Treescapes, you will inspire, energise and positively influence team and individual outcomes. You will be responsible for supervising, managing and motivating a team and providing appropriate support and guidance. Effective employee engagement skills are a key enabler in the performance of this role as is a values-based leadership style.
You will guide the strategic management of Canberra’s urban trees and delivery actions and outcomes in the Urban Forest Strategy, including preparation of funding bids, high-level reports, submissions and correspondence. You will also represent the Directorate and Branch in strategic discussions, establish and maintain positive relationships with key internal and external bodies including other Government agencies, members of the community, and commercial enterprises to proactively plan for future service delivery and innovative urban tree solutions.
This position has direct supervision of staff and overall management of Urban Treescapes.
Eligibility/ Other Requirements: A degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Landscape Architecture, Urban Park Management, or the equivalent in a related discipline, or currently undertaking a related qualification is highly desirable.
To be eligible for permanent employment within the ACT Public Service you must be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident. Driver’s licence (C-class) is essential.
This position requires a pre-employment medical and a Working with Vulnerable People Check.
Note: This is a temporary position available immediately for a period of 12 months. Selection may be based on written application and referee reports only and is open to current and non-current ACTPS employees. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill vacancies across the Branch over the next 12 months.
