We are now seeking an experienced Senior Drill & Blast Engineer to join our Mining team at the Tropicana Gold Mine.
Accountable to the Drill & Blast Superintendent, this role is responsible for strategic planning, optimisation and monitoring of Drill and Blast activities.
This permanent role is based at the Tropicana Gold Mine based on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.
Accountabilities:
- Strategic planning and optimisation of Drill and Blast activities
- Monitor and report compliance to Drill and Blast Standards
- Coordination and review of QA/QC, including use, blast vibration monitoring, fragmentation analysis, to find solutions to minimise material dilution and ore loss from blasting.
- Monthly audits of Drill and Blast infrastructure.
- Projects and continuous improvement
- Monitor and review data from fleet management systems and daily reports.
- End of the month calculation and provide drill and blast data as required to other departments.
- Provide specialist advice on drill and blast impacts to costs per ounce, and advice to identify and mitigate blasting related risks
- Monitor powder factors, bulk explosives and consumables usage against budget
- Lead or assist with incident investigations involving explosive usage including misfires, flyrock and excessive blast vibrations
- Provide full backup to Superintendent during FIFO break periods
- Procurement of blast accessories and explosives
About You
People are at the heart of everything we do. We want you to collaborate with us, share your ideas and feel confident to challenge the status quo. To be considered, we would like to see you have:
- Previous engineering experience preferably in mining operations with good understanding of the drilling and blasting process.
- Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering or AusIMM accepted equivalent
- Experience with large scale open-pit hard rock mining
- Experience in, progress claims and contract variations, preferably in a Mining Alliance environment
- Experience in managing mining and continuous improvement projects
- Competent in at least one General Mining Package (eg Vulcan, Datamine or MineSight), in addition to MS Office software including Excel and Project
- Experience with blast timing software as View Shot, Shot Plus, JK Simblast.
- Applicants with Vulcan experience will be held in high regard.
- Ability to obtain a National Police Clearance
- A current Western Australian ‘C’ class drivers license
- Existing and ongoing permanent working rights in Australia (Mandatory) *please note we are open to considering those with an existing subclass 482 visa in place.
