AddressQueensland Rail has a rare opportunity for a fixed term Queensland Rail employment contract to July 2025 within the exciting role of Senior Electrical Design Engineerwithin our Rollingstock Specialist Engineering team.
The team along with this role are primarily responsible for performing electrical engineering design functions of Low Voltage (LV) and Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems for rollingstock power and control systems, to improve the safety and performance of rollingstock and to ensure rollingstock availability, reliability and cost effectiveness.
This role is a hands-on Design Engineering role, working with a team of professional Rollingstock Electrical Design Engineers.
A typical day in this role will involve a mix of tasks such as:
- Design of Low Voltage (LV) and Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems for rollingstock power and control systems.
- Conduct tests and analysis to make recommendations to improve the reliability and performance of rollingstock and associated equipment.
- Develop design and modification documentation to the required standards, following design control procedures.
- Manage modifications to parts and equipment, including problem solving and fault finding.
- Liaise with technical, trade and other Queensland Rail staff regarding rollingstock modification issues.
- Provide technical assistance and advice to Rollingstock Maintenance.
We are inviting applications from candidates who have:
- Demonstrated senior level experience within Electrical Design Engineering working with Low Voltage (LV) and Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems.
- Extensive skill in undertaking technical investigations, tests, problem solving trial modifications and preparation of technical reports.
- Previous electrical engineering experience within rollingstock or other heavy industry would be highly desirable.
- Demonstrate skill in quality improvement principles in relation to reliability and performance.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to be able to support a wide range of business stakeholders as well as other engineering teams.
Formal qualification and other requirements:
Candidates at the time of application will be able to demonstrate that they currently hold the below qualifications and meet the employment eligibility requirements:
Hold a Professional Bachelor of Engineering Electrical qualification which is recognised under the Washington Accord or demonstrated by ‘an entry to practice competently’ having been awarded to you by Engineers Australia and accepted by Queensland Rail.
Due to the timeline of the requirements for this role, we will only be able to accept candidates with unrestricted eligibility to the be employed within Australia.
Location/hours:
- This role is predominately based in Bowen Hills/Mayne, just outside Brisbane CBD.
- Our standard working hours are 38 hour per work week Monday to Friday, however whilst limited, there may be requirement for some pre-planned/occasional ad-hoc weekend work or outside hours work to support commissioning of design works. Compensation for approved outside hours work applies.
