About the role
We are delighted to announce that we are looking for a Senior Engineer - Manufacturing at our flagship Yarwun manufacturing site located in Gladstone, Queensland.
Orica Yarwun manufactures nitric acid, ammonium nitrate and sodium cyanide products which are used in mining, infrastructure, agriculture and water industries locally, nationally and internationally. Orica has operated at Yarwun for over 30 years and is committed to the health and safety of employees and minimising the impact of our manufacturing activities on the community and the environment.
The Senior Engineer - Manufacturing will be responsible for the optimisation, continuous improvement and technical development of the Product Line and other areas related to the Yarwun manufacturing complex.
What you will be doing
- Adhere to compliance of safety, health, and environmental procedures in the work environment
- Daily production reporting
- Comprehensive plant inspections and compliance reviews
- Interpretation of all product quality results in collaboration with the technical and production teams
- Preliminary information gathering and reporting of any incidents that occur within the cell associated with Basis of Safety, operating window, and process safety
- Technical support for the production cell including operations and maintenance troubleshooting
- Optimisation of operation of the production cell to meet the manufacturing goals of the production cell and the site
- Champion continuous improvement across the Product Line, using DMAIC practices
- Support projects, modification and changes within the production cell including implementation/commissioning and pipeline generation.
- Review and understand technical documents, operating procedures, BOS, etc. as developed by his/her team and other site teams relevant to the production cell
- Maintain and optimise current operating procedures for all plant activities (from an operating efficiency perspective), signed off by the Senior Production Superintendent
- Join the Manufacturing Engineers CoP (Community of Practise) with the purpose of collaborating on best practise and the improvement agenda relevant to the position and its requirements.
- Qualifications in Chemical/Process Engineering
- Post-graduate qualifications in Chemical/Process Engineering preferable
- A minimum of 3 years' experience preferably in chemical manufacturing; inclusive of supervisory experience
- RPEQ preferred but not essential
- Excellent time management, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently
- Superior understanding of safety management systems including management of change, and business improvement exposure through Six Sigma training
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Results orientated, conceptual thinker with a tenacity for taking initiative
