About us:We are looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to join our Design Engineering team, focusing on complex Renewable Energy and BESS projects from design through to execution. The role is to provide direct supervision and leads a team of Design Engineering professionals for delivery of design solutions. It will provide professional engineering and technical advice and delivery of support services for control systems used in the electricity network / power stations /customer connections teams.Energy Queensland is the group of electricity distribution, retail, and energy services businesses 100% owned by the state of Queensland. We deliver electricity across Queensland through our ‘poles and wires’ businesses Energex and Ergon Energy Network. Our retailer, Ergon Energy Retail sells this electricity to customers throughout regional Queensland. And these essential service activities are supported by a range of innovative products and services delivered through our Yurika brand.About your new role:You will be reporting directly to the ‘Automation Design Manager’ and responsible for the following:
  • As a subject matter expert, provides professional engineering advice, RPEQ direct supervision, direction and decisions for design and support of control systems utilised in the electricity network, power stations, and customer connections, ensuring safety and quality outcomes.
  • Leads a team who provide specialised safe, effective and efficient delivery of technical and engineering advice, control systems design solutions and support services to agreed scope, time, and budget in accordance with design frameworks, standards and accepted practices.
  • Leads the performance and development of a high performing team of design and engineering professionals through maintaining technical knowledge through regular sharing, implementing performance frameworks, development plans inclusive of succession planning, feedback and recognition.
  • Leads the investigation and reporting of system events through subject matter expertise, professional engineering advice, judgement and recommendations resulting in timely advice in consideration of customer and organisational outcomes.
  • Identifies, develops, implements and embeds business improvements that contribute to improved team performance and productivity in alignment with the business strategy through collaborating with customers, attending/leading technical meetings/forums, researching new technologies, applying contemporary techniques and sound commercial acumen.
  • Develops, promotes, and sustains strong working relationships with workgroup, internal and external stakeholders, and associates. Assists others within the SCADA & Telecommunication Design team to manage priorities and peaks in workload including promoting cross skilling opportunities for staff.
Working arrangements:You will be located at any of our Queensland offices including Newstead (Brisbane), Mackay, Rockhampton, Townsville, Cairns, Toowoomba, Maryborough and others. All employees will be under our EBA which includes WFH flexibility (up to 2 days a week), options for 9 or 10 day fortnight and superannuation payments of 12.75%.The remuneration for this hire starts at $186,170 plus 12.75% super for a 10-day fortnight.Requirements:
  • In depth knowledge and demonstrated experience in the design principles and practices of control systems, including the application and specification of equipment, function and configuration of complex control systems, with a sound knowledge of the associated Primary and Secondary Plant, Protection and Telecommunications fundamentals.
  • In depth knowledge and demonstrated experience in the use of software and applications for the production of detailed design, management of design and engineering data, including the visual representation of substation, powerstation and lines designs for the Master station/HMI to applicable standards and design documentation workflows, control processes and associated document management systems.
  • In depth knowledge and demonstrated experience in design principles and practices of substation secondary systems design including interpretation of network protection, relays, control circuits, alarm, metering and transducer circuits, with a sound knowledge of the associated substation and protection fundamentals and telecommunication requirements.
  • In depth knowledge and demonstrated experience and abilities in the design of real time control system hardware and software systems associated with Master station, substation, lines and customer installations to satisfy customer and regulatory requirements.
  • In depth knowledge and demonstrated experience and abilities in the design of control system communication interfaces using industry standard protocols (for example DNP3, TCP/IP, ICCP, OPC).
  • In depth knowledge of control systems construction, installation, testing and commissioning requirements, and sound knowledge of maintenance and operations of high voltage plant and equipment, and secondary systems.
