What you will do as a Senior Environmental Engineer (or Scientist)
The core responsibility of your role will be to provide environmental services support for projects and proposals. Given the diverse nature of our clients and projects, you will be expected to provide your environmental consultancy skills (engineering and/or scientific) across a range of technical and non-technical services.
Your role will focus primarily on project management to support the delivery of studies and assessments for a range of project types and settings including coastlines, rivers, lakes and estuaries, and water supply infrastructure/reservoirs.
You will be expected to work independently and as part of multi-disciplinary teams and you will be supported by experienced Project Directors, Technical Directors and Principal Engineers/Scientists. Furthermore, you can expect these duties:
- To provide technical guidance and project direction when appropriate.
- To provide consultancy level support, as required, to the team, their office base and other area teams where specialism allows.
- To make an active contribution to project work, including report writing, organisation, consultation and project management.
- To lead and assist with proposals and tenders.
- To remain up to date with policy and legislative developments in the environmental and marine sectors.
- To contribute to the implementation of marketing initiatives that deliver within the overall business development plan and develop a client list.
- To represent and promote Royal HaskoningDHV within the market through attending meetings, conferences and workshops.
- Keep up-to-date with the latest developments and technical innovations in the discipline.
Other Duties:
- Carry out any duties which your line and technical managers may reasonably request within the broad parameters of your role.
- Focus towards continuous personal development through learning and obtaining feedback both internally and externally, where appropriate.
- To effectively use (with training) the Royal HaskoningDHV QHSE Management Systems.

Essential:
- 7 to 12 years experience.
- Minimum BEng or BSc in relevant environmental disciplines (postgraduate qualifications or equivalent experience desirable).
- To be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of the environmental, coastal and maritime market sector and the consultancy services that this sector demands.
- Proven technical and consultancy abilities appropriate for the role.
- Sound understanding of catchment, river and coastal/estuarine processes.
- Demonstrable experience of applying a range of computer modelling packages to simulate catchments and their receiving environments.
- Demonstrable experience using GIS and spatial analysis to support technical studies.
- Sound understanding of environmental water quality/chemistry and application of guidelines for fresh and marine water quality.
- Demonstrable experience in reviewing, analysing and interpreting hydrological, metocean and other environmental data (water quality).
- Demonstrable experience in EIA or similar environmental assessment.
- Knowledge of legislation and guidelines relevant to sector demands/ technical discipline.
- A working interest in water, environmental and/or climate sciences.
- Demonstrable experience in project management systems.
- Report-writing and presentational skills (essential).
- Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills (essential), and
- Ability to work on own initiative and also to work as part of a comprehensive high-quality team (essential).
- Experience with the application of rainfall-runoff models and receiving water quality models together.
- Experience with the application of DHI MIKE and/or Deltares Delft software simulation products.
- Experience with the application of numerical models to simulate biogeochemical and water quality processes.
- Demonstrable experience in scientific programming and data analysis (e.g. Python, R or Matlab).
