Position Overview: 

Our client is seeking a Senior Environmental / Regulatory Approvals Specialist to join their team. The successful candidate will lead environmental and regulatory initiatives, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. 

With expertise in environmental impact assessment, regulatory compliance, environment plans and project management, the ideal candidate will navigate regulatory frameworks to obtain approvals for various projects and operational activities, for new or existing facilities and pipelines, across the oil and gas, renewable energy, mining and other industry sectors.

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the preparation and submission of regulatory approval applications for various projects and operational changes, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and standards 
  • Conduct environmental impact and risk assessments, review and prepare environment plans, and develop strategies to mitigate potential risks associated with project activities and operations 
  • Manage stakeholder engagement interfaces, including consultation with regulatory bodies, local communities and collaborate with clients’ internal stakeholders 
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on environmental and regulatory matters and stay informed about emerging environmental trends, regulations, and technologies 
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure project objectives are communicated effectively and achieved 
  • Identify training and development needs for team members and ensure consistency with customers’ management systems 

Qualifications / Experience: 

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree (Master's degree or higher preferred) in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering or related field 
  • 20+ years of experience in similar roles in environmental management, Regulatory Approvals, or related field 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Environmental Regulatory requirements including relevant acts and regulations 
  • Expertise in environmental auditing, environmental impact and risk assessment, environment plan development, and environmental management systems (EMS) 
  • Proven track record of successfully obtaining Regulatory Approvals and developing environment plans for complex projects in the mining, energy infrastructure and/or oil and gas industries 
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders 
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and standards, including ISO 14000 and other industry-specific requirements
