You are invited to join a dynamic team with Health Surveillance, Tropical Public Health Service, Medical Services as Senior Epidemiologist. In this role you will work collaboratively with Public Health professionals and other stakeholders to provide high level epidemiological support and advice to the Tropical Public Health Services. Public health focuses on the health and wellbeing of populations, rather than of individuals. TPHS aims to minimise the morbidity and mortality from communicable and vaccine-preventable diseases, and environmental health hazards.

About you:

In your new role you will…

  • Independently undertake high level analyses and interpretation of epidemiological and other health data using a broad range of data and information sources.
  • Lead the development and continual improvement of processes and systems to support high quality data management, epidemiological analysis, interpretation and reporting in the Health Surveillance team.
  • Contribute to Public Health practice knowledge through participation in ongoing professional development and research, including the preparation of peer reviewed publications.

About your opportunity:

In this position you will undertake epidemiological investigations, analyses and reporting to guide and evaluate the surveillance and management of a range of sexually transmitted infections, blood borne viruses and other communicable diseases affecting the health of the North Queensland population.

About your role:

  • Undertake routine and complex epidemiological analyses and reporting for the Tropical Public Health Services, including the identification, evaluation, management and analysis of a wide variety of data and information sources.
  • Translate epidemiological and other health data into information that Public Health practitioners and other stakeholders can understand and use to guide and evaluate Public Health Services.
  • Engage effectively with Public Health practitioners and other stakeholders through participation in multi-disciplinary team meetings and the development and delivery of oral presentations, written reports and other business intelligence resources such as dashboards.
