The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is the Australian Government’s foreign signals intelligence, offensive cyber and cyber security agency.

Position Description
The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is seeking highly motivated and outcome driven Senior Executives to fill the position of First Assistant Director-General that will contribute to ASD’s mission and have relevant skills to work across and within one of our four groups:
- The Australian Cyber Security Centre is a Group within ASD responsible for delivering national, whole-of-economy cyber security services. It is also responsible for a range of executive functions, including strategic communications and media, and ministerial and parliamentary communications.
- Capability and Transformation Group is responsible for delivering and sustaining a wide range of fundamental enterprise and operational capabilities to meet ASD mission needs.
- Signals Intelligence and Effects Group is responsible for delivering foreign signals intelligence and offensive cyber operations in support of Australian Government priorities. It also delivers a range of ASD domestic and international engagement activities that ensure the organisation maximises value from international partnerships and has impact across the Australian Government.
- The Chief Operating Officer Group is responsible for managing ASD’s corporate support services and overseeing the organisation’s daily administration and business operations. The Group leads ASD’s finance, people, learning and development, audit, risk, compliance, property, strategy, governance, legal, security and integrity teams.
ASD is currently undergoing a significant transformation – doubling in size, expanding its presence both nationally and globally, and delivering significant new and enhanced intelligence and security capabilities for Australia. As a senior leader in ASD, you will have a vital role leading this change, and a demonstrated ability to deliver organisational outcomes and engage with high order operational risks.
There is one role currently available, First Assistant Director-General Cloud, based in Canberra ACT. However this recruitment activity may be drawn upon to fill future vacancies at the SES Band 2 level in ASD.
First Assistant Director-General Cloud
The role reports to the Deputy Director-General Capability and Transformation, and is responsible for planning, building and sustaining ASD’s cloud computing platforms. You will be required to lead transformation activities to support ASD adoption of cloud technologies, as well as highly sensitive and transformative cloud programs that supports ASD, the Australian Defence Force and has whole-of-Government significance. The role will also drive effective, efficient and economical operations through a rationalisation of existing ASD systems. You will manage significant staff and budget resources, leverage strategic industry relationships and co-operatively engage with customers and stakeholders. It is highly desirable for candidates to have experience in delivering cloud or ICT transformation and successful organisational change, and managing a technology program of work with multi‑disciplinary and geographically dispersed teams.
