We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Senior Financial Planning Analyst professional to join our clients Finance Department. As the Budget and Compliance Specialist, this role is integral in providing budget planning, compliance, and reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), ensuring the organisation's financial operations are both effective and efficient.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate the preparation of the Annual Budget and Quarterly Revised Budgets
- Prepare and review the Labour Budget
- Assist in the development and preparation of the financial reporting framework
- Produce financial budget reports, ensuring compliance with legislation, and provide detailed analysis on budget movements and outcomes
- Maintain 10-year financial forecasts, analyse results, and provide commentary on key movements to aid decision making
- Reconcile and collate financial reports for presentation
- Support and improve Budget Financial systems, including data capture, system reporting, and maintenance
- Prepare the budget for Overhead & Oncost methodology, ensuring accuracy in results
- Provide support and advice on all aspects of budgeting, including Operational Plans, Risk Registers, and Capital Budgeting
- Offer financial recommendations to the CFO to assist in Financial Planning and decision making
- Allocate tasks and ensure they are completed within agreed timeframes
- Participate in planning and recommending improvements for task efficiency and effectiveness
To be successful in this role, you will have experience in:
- Developing financial policy and procedures
- Managing and reporting on operational and capital budget and forecast models
- Using financial computer systems and applications, particularly Authority and Excel
- Excellent numeracy, written, and oral communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Meeting deadlines and working autonomously
- Knowledge of Local Government administrative systems and processes (desirable)
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and standards
- High-level finance experience
- Operation of computerised finance systems
- Interpretation and application of Australian Accounting Standards and other guiding accounting policies and principles
- Understanding of Operational Plan and Risk Frameworks (desirable)
- Previous experience in local government or a similar environment (highly regarded but not essential)
