The Role and our Branch

A great opportunity exists to join a vibrant and enthusiastic team of finance professionals.

This is a diverse Financial Policy role, presenting an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified accountant to contribute towards great outcomes for the Department of Education.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to drive improvements to corporate and financial management policies and procedures for central services and schools. You will provide support by developing, reviewing and maintaining the financial management manuals and developing policy advice for central services and schools. You will also develop relationships with a variety of stakeholders in contributing to the activities and direction of the Directorate.

Our ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge across a range of areas including the Financial Management Act 2006, Financial Regulations, Treasurer’s Instructions and other related legislation (or similar). You will ideally have well developed conceptual and organisational skills and experience in developing and implementing, policies and procedures with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships.

2. Demonstrated well developed conceptual and analytical skills.

4. Demonstrated well developed planning and organisational skills with the ability to coordinate and deliver key outcomes on schedule.

Eligibility and Training Requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • hold relevant tertiary qualification in business, commerce, finance or related field or equivalent substantial experience
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
