Reporting to the Superintendent Geotechnical you will join a team of 3 highly skilled Geotechnical Engineers to provide technical support and leadership across South Walker Creek and Poitrel Mine Sites.
As Senior Geotechnical Engineer you will:
- Conduct geotechnical investigations, including field mapping, sampling, and laboratory testing, to assess ground conditions and identify potential hazards.
- Monitor and analyse ground movements, slope stability, and rock mechanics using various instrumentation and geotechnical software.
- Develop and implement geotechnical monitoring programs to ensure early detection of any geotechnical issues.
- Provide geotechnical input and support for mine planning, design, and operational decision-making.
- Collaborate with the geology, mining, and operations teams to optimize pit design, slope angles, and overall mine stability.
- Conduct regular inspections of high-risk areas and recommend appropriate remedial measures when required.
- Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports and present findings and recommendations to management and stakeholders.
- Oversee the management of our mine’s dams and associated structures.
To set you up for success, we expect you will have:
- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, civil engineering, engineering geology or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering with open cut coal mining operations is highly desirable.
- Experience with Vulcan and geotechnical software, such as Rocscience, or GeoStudio.
- RPEQ qualification or ability to obtain in Geotechnical Engineering is desirable (we will support you with this)
- Excellent communication and problem solving skills.
