Senior Geotechnical Engineer

As a boutique consulting firm our client specialises in civil infrastructure for clients in Road, Rail, Maritime, Airports and Health, with a focus on Civil, Structural and Geotechnical engineering disciplines and Design/Project management.

The work our client does is challenging, stimulating and rewarding and due to project demands, our client is currently seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their Transport team. The career opportunity will be Brisbane based.

About the role:

• You will spend a significant amount of time working collaboratively with national engineering team members and project stakeholders, combined with some time spent on site as projects are underway. There may be the requirement to work remotely from time to time.
• There may be the need to travel for this role – the incumbent will be required to attend client’s offices and work sites in a face-to-face capacity, or occasional visits to our other offices.
• You will provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to less experienced team members, and contribute to the professional development and transfer of knowledge within the team.
• The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will also build the brand and networks with external stakeholders (e.g. government, clients, contractors) with a strong interface to industry, and contribute to the bidding, tendering and proposal processes.

• Lead projects on behalf of Clients or as part of the team
• Assign, monitor and manage team tasks and deadlines to ensure project milestones are met
• Deliver work packages on projects as part of a team around design, drafting and project deliverable
• Monitor time/cost/quality performance within projects and identifying corrective actions
• Coordinate contractual and governance issues
• Provide critical review and advice on significant risks and issues across projects and the organisation to support decision making
• Participate in site investigations and field work as required
• Participate in Recruitment activities, including candidate review, interviews, and selection
• Participate in Onboarding programs to ensure new starters have a positive experience
• Oversee the professional development of less experienced engineers by sharing technical and commercial experience, training and knowledge
• Set, communicate and measure team and individual objectives aligned to project and strategic goals
• Support the development of engineering work practices, with a focus on Geotechnical expertise
• Lead team meetings to ensure sharing of knowledge and adequate resource planning
• Work collaboratively to identify viable solutions for project issues and resolve problems for our clients, encouraging less experienced team members to think critically

• You will have With at least 10 years' experience in civil infrastructure and Geotechnical Engineering roles,
• Experience Delivering Infrastructure projects in QLD specifically to Transport Main Roads (TMR) Standards. Roads / Highway
• Enjoy working as part of a team and sharing your knowledge and experience with less experienced engineers.

• You will have Tertiary qualifications – Bachelor of Engineering (Geotechnical/Civil) – ESSENTIAL
• Registered Professional Engineering Queensland (RPEQ) Practising qualifications **, with the ability to sign off project deliverable in relevant competencies – ESSENTIAL, Or the eligibility to apply for RPEQ within 1 month of commencement of employment
• Chartered Engineer (CPEng) qualifications – PREFERRED
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written), and the ability to prepare documentation, drawings, spreadsheets and presentations to a high level
• Strong negotiation skills with the ability to influence outcomes to find win-win solutions
• Ability to present confidently and with authority at client meetings
• Ability to problem solve and think critically and strategically
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft suite and virtual meeting and collaboration tools
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD software, and GE design applications (including Plaxis)
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet concurrent project deadlines
• Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team to meet project goals and operational targets
• Ability to provide, receive and apply constructive feedback to ensure continuous improvement

• Current and valid Drivers’ Licence & own transport
