Work Location: Perth - Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.
Roster: Monday to Friday
Fortescue is entering a phase of exponential growth and is expanding as we move towards our decarbonisation mission into green energy. This means our Cultural Heritage team is expanding and looking for Senior Heritage Advisors to join the team.
Based in Perth, the Senior Heritage Advisor - Social Surrounds reports to the Heritage Principal leading the Social Surrounds Team. The Senior Heritage Advisor will be primarily responsible for facilitating Social Surrounds consultation with Traditional Custodians and the development of Social Heritage Management Plans (SCHMPs) where required.
As part of this role, the Senior Heritage Advisor will also be required to collaborate with Traditional Custodians and internal stakeholders to undertake relevant impact assessments and studies to develop Fortescue's SCHMPs and related management plans and establish appropriate management targets.
Consultation with Traditional Custodian stakeholders and their representatives is expected to include both on-country consultation and formal meetings.
Key Responsibilities
  • Working safely to coordinate consultation and other related field activities in collaboration with Traditional Custodians, their representatives, and internal stakeholders.
  • The authorisation of on-site works, in compliance with Fortescue's management systems, to ensure compliance with the Western Australia Aboriginal Heritage Act and Fortescue's land access agreements, commitments, and obligations.
  • Build and enhance positive relations with key internal and external stakeholders to meet and advance operational and development requirements.
  • Engender a positive team and workplace culture.
  • Prepare Social Surrounds related documentation in an accurate and timely manner, and in accordance with business requirements.
  • Where required, assist in the development of Heritage approvals documents in collaboration with the Heritage Approvals Team.
  • Assist in the development of Social Surrounds content for external meetings with Native Title Parties and Government Regulators.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Social Surrounds and heritage engagement strategies, to meet business requirements and regulator expectations.
  • Where deemed necessary, lead the Social Surrounds consultation process.
  • Escalation of delays or issues that arise as appropriate.
Qualifications and Experience
  • A tertiary qualification in archaeology, anthropology, or environmental science.
  • 3 - 4 years previous experience in a similar role.
  • Tertiary qualification in archaeology, anthropology, environmental science, sociology or law or a related discipline
  • Experience in the development of cultural heritage management plans will be highly regarded.
  • Understanding of considerations required for Environmental Impact Assessments and risk assessments
  • Working knowledge of the revised Western Australia Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972
  • Working knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act 1986.
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and as a collaborative team member.
  • Excellent attention to detail and demonstrated ability to deliver results while working on multiple projects within tight timeframes.
  • Highly developed administrative and computer skills in the Microsoft Office suite and spatial management software (Arc GIS or similar). Ability to learn and use new software quickly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders from a diverse range of backgrounds, to establish and strengthen relationships.
  • High-level interpersonal skills.
