Senior Journalist Geelong Broadcasters

K rock and bay 93.9 are searching for an experienced newsroom leader to head up our team of dedicated local radio journalists.  One of the best journalism roles in the country, this is a rare opportunity to oversee a close-knit, passionate team working in our state-of-the-art Geelong newsroom, producing the highest quality radio bulletins and content for our online platforms in the Greater Geelong Region.

We are an independent media outlet, dedicated to the delivery of real, ethical and factual news.  With a strong focus on hyper-localism, our hardworking talented team identifies, researches and delivers hot and breaking local stories, as well as the national and global headlines that Geelong, the Surf Coast and Bellarine need to know.

The winning candidate will have:

• A passion for real, ethical, factual news and the ability to cover the whole news spectrum. 
• The ability to oversee a team of journalists in a fast-paced, demanding environment, delivering news content for broadcast and online platforms accurately, to tight deadlines.
• The ability to work with pace, quickly and calmly writing and delivering bulletins on-air half hourly or on the hour and online.
• Accurate attention to detail to ensure strict adherence to the law, ethics and industry regulation as they affect journalists.
• Exemplary written, oral and editorial skills and demonstrated experience in writing well-rounded bulletins and how best to present them to particular audiences.
• An understanding of current events, a keen eye for a good story and know how to get up-to-the minute, fast-breaking news to our listeners.
• An understanding of online news, social media and its importance in a commercial radio environment.
• Technical knowledge and proficiency of skills using a range of audio/visual/copy production equipment (e.g. Newsboss, Wordpress).
• Enthusiasm for early morning shifts, a high level of motivation, determination and an assertive leadership style.
