The opportunity:
Based in Campbellfield, Victoria, the Senior Lab Analyst will be responsible for developing test methods and lab protocols and conduct testing for pulp and paper raw materials including recycling assessments
The Role:
Reporting to the Paper and Board Laboratory Manager, your key responsibilities will be:
- Designs laboratory experiments for the investigation of packaging and material failures
- Conducts detailed research and analysis on raw materials to verify cost saving opportunities.
- Troubleshoots packaging and lab issues.
- Investigate and create lab methodology for material assessment.
- Develop technical programs to assess the technical and commercial suitability of the material for application by Visy.
- Present project business cases in an easily-understood format to the business
- Provide technical assessments to support Visy manufacturing processes, raw material and chemical optimization programs.
- Develop and conduct cross training program with the Laboratory Manager to ensure laboratory skills are spread across the team
- Participate in the development of industry or Australian paper and packaging standards.
- Represent Visy on Australian Standards Committee.
What you will bring to the team:
- Tertiary qualifications in Chemical, Materials or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Science degree
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in a laboratory or research role.
- Experience in laboratory methodology development.
- Troubleshooting and project management experience.
- Knowledge of the paper or board making process and their raw materials.
- Detailed experience in the application of Excel to data analysis.
- Experience in experimental design, statistical analysis and process modelling within a data analytics software platform.
- Experience in the design of R&D projects to assess new materials and processes e.g. fiber, refining, wet end chemistry etc.
- Understanding paper mill production methods and mill hardware is desirable.
- Understanding of corrugated packaging production and technical assessment of fiber-based packaging is desirable.
