About the team
The Directorate of Student Life sits within the Education Portfolio, overseen by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Education. Student Life plays an integral role in the shared strategic goal of providing a world-class student experience.
The Directorate has five core divisions, Student Administration, Student Offices, International Student Experience and Global Learning, Student Equity and Success, and Student Wellbeing and Engagement. The scope of services centre on the student journey, from the provision of student programs and activities that support and promote access to UWA, to student enrolment, course planning, transition, and progression through the lifecycle of study to graduation. The Directorate is also responsible for the delivery of services that promote academic success and support wellbeing and engagement for an enhanced student experience. Student Life works closely with the Student Guild, affiliated residential colleges and the wider UWA Education portfolio.
The Success team runs the Academic Skills Centre and initiatives that support students for academic success, including to improve their study, writing, communication, English, STEM, and research skills. They deliver an innovative program of academic supports, workshops, drop-in study sessions, online sessions and develop interactive resources. The team deliver dedicated support to students who are in varying transitions of their learning journey (for example first year students and others new to UWA, and students identified as at risk) to build learning communities and support academic success. They also focus on supporting students from diverse backgrounds and those entering via alternative pathways.
About the opportunity
As the appointee you will, under broad direction, with a specialty in Mathematics, Statistics, and Data, facilitate student learning and skill development across the University's academic disciplines. You will primarily focus on students entering via alternative entry pathways and possessing diverse educational backgrounds, ensuring they receive targeted support to excel in their studies.
To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:
- Relevant tertiary qualification and teaching specialisation in mathematics, statistics, data science, or a related field or demonstrated equivalent competency in these areas
- Demonstrated ability to effectively support students in developing the academic skills and competencies essential for achieving success at the tertiary level
- Highly-developed understanding of the challenges and issues pertinent to the successful transition of students to university
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to engage and consult with students from diverse cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to utilise current approaches to online learning and leveraging digital resources effectively to support student learning
