Newly created Senior Legal Officer (5-8+ years PAE) position with a Local Government body

This fast-growing Local Council in the Macarthur region of NSW is seeking a Senior Legal Officer to join its in-house legal team to provide support to the Council on a broad variety of legal matters, with a focus on commercial law and contracts.
Your new role
Reporting to the Manager Legal and Governance, you will interact with various internal and external stakeholders to assist in the Council's management of legal and policy matters, and provide guidance to staff with respect to contracts and other legal documents, policies and procedures, governance matters and legal enquiries.
Duties will include:advising on various areas of law including commercial law, property, planning, intellectual property, privacy, administrative law and local government law;
drafting and reviewing various legal documents, including commercial contracts such as procurement agreements, IT agreements, sponsorship agreements and grants;
assisting with privacy and access to information matters and managing subpoena requests;
preparing reports, submissions, briefing papers, policies and correspondence on a broad range of legal and governance matters;
updating and maintaining legal templates;
coordinating and managing advice from the Council's Legal Services Panel;
delivering training to the organisation.
What you'll need to succeed
You will have a minimum of 5 years' PAE in one or more of the following areas of law: commercial law, property, planning, intellectual property, privacy, administrative law and local government law.
You will have excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills and the ability to build strong relationships by influencing and negotiating outcomes. You will have proven legal experience in preparing, reviewing and advising on a range of commercial agreements, with a demonstrated ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines. Previous working experience in local government or other government setting is advantageous, but not required.
You must hold a current Australian Practising Certificate.
