Senior Manager, Health Equity - Part-time 0.8 FTE

Are you an experienced advocate for Health Equity with a passion for driving positive change?

We are seeking a pro-active and highly motivated individual with significant experience in developing and implementing complex equity-related initiatives, preferably in the health sector, and who can establish strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders across multiple organisations.

About the Opportunity

As Senior Manager, Health Equity you will oversee the cross-cutting theme of Health Equity throughout the work of the VCCC Alliance. This could be implemented in a several ways, for example, it may be focussed on one large equity-focussed program or relate to embedding equity initiatives across several projects. You are likely to work in multiple ways to drive equity projects and embed inclusive approaches, such as providing advice to existing programs; initiating programs from design to completion; and/or completing existing programs/projects.

The Senior Manager, Health Equity role is therefore dynamic, requiring an experienced Health Equity leader with initiative and creative thought. The role may, over time, be assigned to manage different programs and oversee progress against strategic Health Equity goals, dependent on the incumbent’s capacity, experience and capability and, where possible, their preference and developmental objectives.

The level of the position within the VCCC Alliance structure and remuneration will be dependent on the level of experience and expertise of the suitable incumbent.

Responsibilities Include:

Project Management

  • Work collaboratively to develop program Health Equity objectives, plans and track the timely delivery of activities and milestones, ideally in a cancer research, biomedical or cancer healthcare setting.
  • Develop program goals and metrics that can be progressively tracked and reported on to support delivery and strategic evaluation requirements.
  • Use project management best practice frameworks and methods to plan, implement and report on risks, progress and deliverables aligned with strategic goals.
  • Identify opportunities for leveraged funding and support funding applications.
  • Provide expert advice across all program areas, from Education to Research, to identify and address barriers to equity.

Stakeholder Relationship Management

  • Effectively manage the requirements of multiple stakeholders including advocacy groups and organisations such as VACCHO. Experience managing collaborative relationships with senior academics, clinicians, researchers and senior stakeholders and/or state government representatives.
  • Develop and manage key relationships with government, research institutes, health services and consumer and community groups, working in the field of Health Equity

Reporting and Administration

  • Facilitate meetings, working groups, committees and broader forums, including agenda writing, hybrid meeting facilitation, presentations, and minutes/actions.
  • Write reports, briefs, presentations and other written communications for a range of audiences.
  • Team Leadership
  • Lead, support and develop a small team of professional reports.
  • Lead, manage and support team members generally, to ensure identified strategic priorities and program initiatives are delivered to a high standard.

About you:

You will have significant experience in the management of complex program management with proven team leadership and relationship building experience. You will:

  • have significant experience developing and implementing programs to address inequities in health with proven experience working collaboratively to develop and co-design complex Health Equity objectives into a program of achievable work
  • be organised with the ability to prioritise, plan and track the timely delivery of activities and milestones and write professional reports on progress and benefit impact, ideally in a cancer research, biomedical or cancer healthcare setting
  • be an experienced leader, who leads with empathy and drive to ensure programs are delivered to meet strategic objectives
  • have excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to facilitate and present persuasively to multi-disciplinary and diverse groups
  • have a demonstrated understanding of project management frameworks and methodologies, with ability and skill to adjust processes to problem solve and remove unnecessary complexity
  • be profiient in the use of hybrid communication technology such as Zoom, MSTeams and/or Slack, Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, and Asana or similar project/tasks management systems.
  • hold a tertiary degree (preferably a postgraduate or Post Doc qualification) in a relevant discipline such public health, public policy, sociology or health sciences, or significant relevant experience in a similar field.
