About the team
The Project and Infrastructure Advisory team are industryleaders in the planning, development, and delivery of city andregion shaping projects. Our team works with government and privateclients across a range of sectors including transport, precincts,telecommunications, and regional economic development. Withunprecedented expenditure in infrastructure and our track record indelivery our team needs to grow to continue to support ourclients.
Our Transport Planning and Advisory team in Sydney supports ourclients through a wide range of project development activities,from project and program establishment to assurance and approvalsprocesses. The team is rapidly expanding and as a result we nowhave an opportunity for an experienced professional that can leadthe management, development, and delivery of transport projects andprograms from inception through to execution, with typicalengagements including:
- Technical leadership of multi-modal Transport Planning and engineering projects
- Strategic planning and feasibility studies
- Place-based transport and precinct planning
- Business Case development
- Infrastructure design management
- Organisational operating model design and implementation

Current opportunity
We are currently searching for a Principal/Associate TransportPlanner/Engineer to lead and deliver complex transport projects andprograms and contribute to the continued growth of our business andpeople. This will include policy, strategy, and planning, businesscase, and project and program management roles and engagements– and often a combination of these services for our keyclients. This is a full-time opportunity and will require a highlevel of professional autonomy focused on delivering outcomes forclients and building the capability of the BDO Transport Planningand Advisory team. You’ll be considered an expert inthis space.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading the delivery of exceptional client outcomes as part of a BDO team delivering transformational programs and projects from inception through to planning and implementation
- Leading or working as part of multi-disciplinary teams to deliver project strategy and assurance, planning and development, and project and program management services
- Managing the on-time and on-budget delivery of projects and programs, including the preparation and management of project plans, cost models, schedule, risk registers, and reporting and communications
- Bringing different thinking and innovative ideas to solve client’s challenges
- Maintaining strong relationships with clients, project stakeholders, project partners, and the broader industry
- Development and implementation of business plans and engagement pursuit strategies, preparation of proposals, and management of tender processes
- Leading the scoping of client needs, work planning and development of proposals, supported by the BDO team
- Continuing to develop the capacity and capabilities of the Transport Planning & Advisory team
What you will need to succeed
The role will suit candidates with over 10 years’experience with tertiary qualifications in engineering, planning,economics, or other civil or social infrastructurespecialisations. Transport project and program leadership,management, and business case qualifications and/or experience arealso highly desirable. More specifically success in the role willrequire:
- Technical Transport Planning and engineering expertise
- Experience in program & project management principles
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Drive, proactivity and enthusiasm to deliver exceptional client outcomes and build trusting relationships
- Confidence and maturity to engage with senior leaders, executives, and other key stakeholders to achieve an outcome
- Experience in preparing and managing program and project controls including budget, schedule, risk, interface, quality, and stakeholder management
- Business development and bid, proposal, and tender management experience
- Experience in sizing engagements including scoping the skills & experience required, team structure, and pricing frameworks
- The ability to mentor and support others, and commitment to building capability within the BDO Team and its clients
- An excellent grasp of MS Office Suite, particularly PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
- A desire to work within a dynamic team environment, learn from others, and help others to be successful
