An opportunity is available for an experienced and qualified Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team based at our facility in Bassendean in a permanent full time contract.

About the Role
The Senior Mechanical Design engineer is an essential part of the SVA’s engineering team who are responsible for supporting all SVA engineers and draftsmen and reporting directly to the Engineering Manager. Your involvement will include, but is not limited to:
Engineering Design
- Provide Mechanical Engineering support to SVA Engineering, Sales, and Production
- Assist in development of concept drawings and products
- Creation of accurate 3D CAD models, detailed engineering drawings and Bills of materials (BOMs) using Solidworks
- Generate drawings and calculations of designs for verification and validation
- Guide junior engineers on achieving functional designs
- Perform stress analysis and verification of findings via Finite Element Analysis - FEA
- Perform root cause investigation of failed components and generate technical reports
- Undertaking testing of equipment under development and document and report findings
- Developing 3D Scanning capability using Polyworks software
- Checking Mechanical Designs and detail drawings
- Analyse and document product issues and malfunctions
- Taking ownership of engineering projects
- Attend meetings and participate in technical discussions
Development of SVA Engineering Quality systems:
- Preparation of work instructions
- Maintaining Engineering drawings and registers
- Responding to internal engineering requests
Compliance with Legal Requirements
- Gaining and demonstrating a thorough understanding of Australian Standards and ISO standards, local and national regulations, and providing compliance to legislation (ADR, RVS, VSB6)
- Complete Risk Assessments, Stress Management, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on structures
About You
To succeed in this role, we are after a Mechanical Engineer with a bachelor’s degree with minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role. Interested to learn more about mining equipment, metal fabrication and manufacturing process, hydraulic systems and electrical and electronic systems. In addition, we are looking for a candidate with the following skills and knowledge.
Technical Knowledge and people skills:
- Technical Qualifications – Mechanical Engineering Degree
- Work experience within a similar industry (desirable)
- Manufacturing experience on heavy fabrication, welding specifications, assembly instructions and general arrangements details
- Proficiency with 3D modelling applications (preferably SolidWorks and AutoCAD)
- Willingness and interested to expand knowledge base about design of mining equipment and fabrication methods
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills in order to work with colleagues, suppliers and other personnel on a daily basis.
- Good organisation, multitasking and time management skills that delivers effective planning and house keeping standards.
- Passion for engineering and analytical mindset
- Self motivated
- Strong commitment to health and safety
- Computer experience using standard MS Office suite of programs
