Senior Mechanical Engineer

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our site based Mechanical Engineering team. The role is required to demonstrate high capability in trouble-shooting, diagnosis, fault finding and technical engineering advice so that technical and engineering issues are resolved quickly, safely and efficiently so that equipment availability and production outcomes are maximised.

As a Senior you will collaborate closely with site maintenance and operations teams to provide effective engineering support to improve equipment reliability and to ensure operational targets for Safety, Production and Cost are met.

This role is a permanent site based position, operating on an 8 days on 6 days off roster.

Technical responsibilities:
Engineer solutions for plant performance / plant reliability issues and develop optimisation opportunities which meet all relevant Australian standards, regulatory and statutory requirements
Adhere to work priorities as instructed by your direct leader to ensure that critical business needs are addressed in a timely manner
Provide rapid and effective support to the business to identify and rectify mechanical engineering issues in operating equipment
Undertake Mechanical Design and Project work as required, ensuring that all engineering work is compliant with Australian standards and other regulatory requirements
Provide technical support to the wider Maintenance team in all aspects of Mechanical Engineering
Ensure all direct report works meet engineering & statutory requirements so that no adverse risks are introduced to the business
Review all engineering work requests in a timely and consistent manner and undertake Mechanical Design and Project work as required, ensuring that all engineering work is compliant with Australian standards and other regulatory requirements
Provide mechanical engineering input, analysis and diagnosis in production loss / equipment downtime investigation processes to assist in root cause analysis and identification of corrective actions to eliminate event recurrence risks
Work across all departments with key representatives to reduce equipment downtime and improve reliability to meet operational targets
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&ID’s and other reference materials to assist with fault finding activities and identify/develop equipment performance and production improvement opportunities
Ensure direct reports work priorities are focused in areas that will provide the best return to KML
Promote continuous improvement by ensuring ongoing reviews of preventative & predictive maintenance systems are conducted to optimise equipment performance

Essential Qualifications and experience:
A Mechanical Engineering degree
Western Australian C Class Drivers Licence
Section 44 Appointed

Strong Supervision and/or Management experience leading a medium to large team
Demonstrated capability in the understanding and practical application of common predictive technologies: vibration analysis, lubrication, thermography, motor analysis, ultrasonic, machinery analysis, alignment and balancing procedures, and fixed equipment diagnostic technologies
Extensive experience in mechanical engineering, with several years’ exposure to reliability engineering and operational process plants
Proven experience in the mining, processing or associated industries
Demonstrated success in the development, establishment and implementation of plant reliability processes, systems and baseline definitions
