The Opportunity
Our client GEMCO is located in the Northern Territory, on the West Coast of Groote Eylandt. They produce high grade Manganese Ore from an open-cut, strip-mining operation. This role for our new project is being offered on an 8/6 FIFO roster from any capital city in Australia.
About The Role
As the Senior Mining Engineer for Thiess at GEMCO, you will establish the technical services systems and processes for the project before full mobilisation. As the facilitator of the short term planning process, you will develop mine plans and designs and support execution, enabling the business to meet contractual production targets cost effectively. The role requires strong collaboration with key internal and client stakeholders, perfectly suited to an enthusiastic engineer keen for exposure to project management and seeking out then implementing improvement opportunities to lift performance.
Additionally, you will:
- Work closely with the client mine planning team to coordinate and optimise the mine design and Thiess plan
- Develop the weekly plan, and assist implementation (including daily planning)
- Work with key stakeholders on short term planning and operational issues
- Communicate changes across the wider team
- Develop strong relationships with the operations team
- Weekly and Monthly production reporting
- Assist complete financial analysis, project management and improvement initiatives
About You
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Mining/Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- 5 - 10 years' experience in the mining industry
- Minimum 3 years in an open pit mining environment with varied technical services exposure that could include Short Term Design, Planning, Scheduling, Drill & Blast or operational focused roles
- Experience implementing mining processes and systems in a brown or green field site
- Strong Mining Software and MS Office experience
- Excellent behavioural, time management, analytical, verbal and written communication skills
