AddressSIMEC Mining is progressing with several projects that will sustain and eventually increase its production of high-quality magnetite concentrate. To achieve this, SIMEC needs to excel in:
- Expanding the magnetite resource base and defining the pathway for optimal value extraction from these resources to underpin a long-term future (+15yrs) for the Iron Ore business. This underpins the business goal of creating a Greensteel hub in Whyalla.
- Develop investable mining projects from initial concepts to investment propositions through quality studies.
- Maximising value extraction through strategic mine planning from the known reserve base in a fluctuating commodity price environment.
Reporting to the Principal Mining Engineer, you will work across the operations, projects and growth workstreams to deliver mine planning solutions which generate value for the business. Specifically, deliver technical outputs to the Strategic Mine Planning team to support the Magnetite transformation project and integration into the business plan. This role is core to enabling the delivery of multiple parallel projects while ensuring that current Life of Mine processes continue to occur on time.
This role is Adelaide-based and will work with teams in Adelaide and Whyalla. Travel will be required as part of this role on an irregular basis.
Responsibilities include:
- Execute various scenarios in OPMS Mine Planner to explore different possibilities and outcomes, including a detailed Life of Mine schedule.
- Develop long-term mine designs tailored to specific project scenarios, ensuring adaptability and foresight.
- Create compelling visual aids such as graphs and tables and articulate paragraphs for project reports, all based on outputs from mine plans, to communicate data and findings effectively.
- Design long-term waste rock dump strategies, incorporating dedicated areas for PAF (Potentially Acid Forming) and NAF (Non-Acid Forming) storage.
- Formulate long-term pit designs that consider the dimensions of the selected mining equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to generate inputs and assumptions for the Life of Mine planning process.
We are looking for a curious and solution-oriented person who is commercially savvy and thinks like an investor.
You will also bring the following:
- Formal qualifications in Mining Engineering (ideal) or similar
- Minimum 5 years experience in large-scale open pit mine sites, with a combination of mine planning and operational roles - preferably iron ore.
- Sound understanding of mine planning methodologies and processes
- Experience with industry standard design and scheduling packages
- Attention to detail and ability to ensure successful completion of any assigned tasks
- Develop, coach and mentor employees to improve engagement, diversity and capability
- Proficient with MS Office, ability to script using VBA highly regarded
- Ability to work autonomously or in a collaborative environment
- Able to deliver results with limited guidance
- Safety focused and a commitment to best practices of OH&S at all times
