Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Nursery Hand to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about horticulture, possess strong leadership capabilities, and have a keen eye for detail. As a Senior Nursery Hand, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the production of seedlings across multiple sectors, ensuring the highest standards of quality and productivity are maintained.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of the nursery, including planting, watering, fertilizing, and pest control.
- Monitor plant health and growth progress, identifying and addressing any issues promptly.
- Lead a team of nursery staff, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
- Assist in the development and implementation of cultivation plans to meet production targets and quality standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment and facilities, ensuring they are maintained in good working condition.
- Collaborate with management to optimize processes and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory, production, and plant health data.
- Adhere to all health and safety protocols to create a safe working environment for all staff members.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a commercial nursery environment, preferably in vegetable seedling production, forestry seedling propagation, berry plant cultivation, or herb farming.
- Strong knowledge of horticultural practices, including plant propagation, irrigation systems, and pest management.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Certificate III or IV in Horticulture or related field is desirable but not essential.
