Job description

An exciting opportunity for a physiotherapist with experience in hand therapy and/or burns therapy to provide leadership and clinical expertise within the physiotherapy hands, burns and plastics (HBP) team at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

The role:

The senior HBP physiotherapist’s caseload will include outpatient (and a small amount of inpatient) management of wrist and hand fractures, tendon injuries, nerve injuries, sports injuries, splinting, wrist and elbow surgery, elective hand surgery, as well as major multi-trauma and burn injuries across the life span (including paediatrics).

There is some potential flexibility within this role, as this position could incorporate a varied amount of either specialty (hands or burns).

We encourage interested applicants to call and discuss this further.

The senior HBP physiotherapist will:

  • Have significant experience in hand therapy and/or burns and provide contemporary evidence-based physiotherapy.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively, efficiently and collaboratively in a complex and dynamic multidisciplinary environment.
  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision and professional support to the allied health assistants, undergraduate students and physiotherapists.
  • Contribute effectively to the team’s learning culture, quality improvement and service development activities.

Note: - Please refer to the Statement of Duties for all the selection criteria of this position to address in your application.

The team:

Our team consists of clinical leads, accredited hand therapists, rotating physiotherapists and allied health assistants.  There are regular opportunities for continuing education and learning and mentoring from our senior experienced Accredited Hand Therapists. There is also shared supervision and training of junior rotating physiotherapist. The team works closely with the plastic and orthopaedic teams and sits within the broader physiotherapy service of THS-S enabling effective collaboration to facilitate optimised patient outcomes.

Royal Hobart Hospital is the sole provider of public health hand therapy and burns therapy in Southern Tasmania and the physiotherapy team works in close collaboration with plastic and orthopaedic surgeons. The Royal Hobart Hospital is also home to the state’s burns unit and we provide therapy to inpatient and outpatient burn injured patients.
