Your new role
We have an excellent opportunity available for an experienced Senior Operator to join our Coffs Harbour team.
Reporting to the Yard Manager, you will safely operate machinery in order to sort, grade and purchase metals. You will be responsible for all day-to-day operations of the yard in the absence of the Yard Manager, lead a safe working environment, and monitor yard operations to ensure quality and consistency.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Load & unload trucks, skip bins and trailers
- Operate equipment, including forklift and/or excavator (where licensed)
- Ensure customers receive a high level of service
- Grading and sorting materials, monitoring quality of material received to ensure correct classification and or deductions as required
- Ensure buying practices are adhered to, in line with set KPI’s and recommending continuous improvements to the Yard Manager
- Demonstrating personal responsibility for and commitment to OH&S policies and procedures
- Frontline management of all yard operators, including ensuring compliance with Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality requirements
- Driving cultural change across your area of influence and ensuring a high level of employee engagement through communication and exceptional leadership
To be successful in this opportunity, you will have:
- Forklift (LF) license and or Excavator license (or a willingness to learn)
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with a self-motivated approach to your work
- Excellent communication skills and ability to quickly build effective working relationships
- Effective scheduling, planning, and time management skills
- A can-do attitude, you will be open to undertaking training in order to diversify your skills
- Knowledge and understanding of scrap metal processing techniques and equipment (preferrable)
- Excellent attendance, reliability and attention to detail
